Common practice

Why it's written this way

Gutter jobs are priced by the foot and questioned by the downspout. Show both.

1

Why show linear feet and gauge?

The footage is the price driver and the gauge is the quality driver. Together they let a customer compare your invoice to a quote.

2

Why list downspouts separately?

Downspout count is where two bids on the same house differ. Listing them explains the difference.

3

Why note overflow?

Customers call after the first big storm. Stating that gutters are sized for normal rain heads off the warranty call.

What varies by state

Gutter work is lightly regulated but touches roofing and drainage rules.

General information, not legal, tax, or licensing advice. Requirements differ by state, county, and city and change over time. Confirm with your state licensing board and the local authority having jurisdiction before relying on any of this.

Common questions

Should I quote by the foot?

Yes, and show it. It's the industry norm.

Are gutter guards worth listing separately?

Always. They can double the invoice and the customer should see that choice.

What if the fascia is rotten?

Exclude it and price it as found, or list the repair as its own line.

How do I handle underground drains?

Separate line or separate invoice. It's a different scope with different risk.
