Common practice

Why it's written this way

Pest control is one of the few service trades where the invoice doubles as a compliance record.

1

Why list the products by name?

Most states require applicators to record what was applied, where, and how much. Putting it on the invoice satisfies the customer and the record at once.

2

Why separate inspection from treatment?

An inspection has value even when nothing is treated. Charging it separately gets paid for the visit and makes the treatment line clean.

3

Why show a zero-dollar follow-up?

A visible follow-up line sets expectations. The customer knows a return visit is part of the service, not a new charge.

Before you send it

What varies by state

Pesticide application is licensed everywhere in the U.S.; how the license works and what must be recorded varies.

General information, not legal, tax, or licensing advice. Requirements differ by state, county, and city and change over time. Confirm with your state licensing board and the local authority having jurisdiction before relying on any of this.

Common questions

Should I show the EPA registration number?

If your state requires it in the record, yes — it costs nothing to include and makes the invoice the record.

How do I handle a service plan?

Bill each visit against the plan and show the plan price, not the per-visit product cost.

What if the pest comes back?

State your re-treatment terms on every invoice. Customers call about the warranty they remember.

Do I charge for the inspection?

Yes for one-time calls. For plan customers, fold it into the visit and show it at zero.
